What is St Giles?
St Giles it’s an English language Institute currently present in UK and Canada. It was established in 1955 in London by Paul Lindsay as a small ESL entrepreneurship that began with only £100, which grew immensely and currently caters to as many as 14,000 students every year in its different locations.

Is there a minimum age to apply for an English course at St Giles?
The minimum age to apply is 16 years old, for platinum courses is 21 years old, and 30 years of age for 30+ programs. Moreover, there are special courses for teenagers under 16 years of age, including special activities for them you have fun while learning English.
Do students need a High School diploma to apply? Can they apply if they are still in High School?
No, there’s no need for applicants to be high school graduates. They only need to comply with the English proficiency and minimum age requirements.
How does the application process work?
You must fill in an online form, pay the initial fees -registration fee, course deposit and UK visa fee (if applicable), accommodation deposit, accommodation placement fee, insurance fee and airport transfer (if applicable)-, and then St Giles will be able to issue an acceptance letter. With this you can apply for the visa you need to study (in case you need one), and then you have to pay for the tuition fee, at least 21 days before the course’s start date.
Is there any deadline to apply?
There's no deadline. However, you must leave enough time for your visa/permit application process, as well as keep in mind that courses might be filled up if the starting date is too near.
How is my English proficiency level tested?
You’ll take a placement test on your first day at school.
Do I need to submit a test score or a transcript when applying to these ESL courses?
No, your English proficiency level will be determined by the placement test.
Do I receive any certification or documents by the end of the course?
Yes, you’ll receive a report if your class attendance is over 80%.
I am not a student in my home country, can I take these English language courses with a student visa?
Yes, anyone can apply for these courses.
Can I enroll on these ESL courses with a tourist visa or a visa waiver?
Yes, depending on the country and the course’s duration, you may apply with a visa waiver/eTA/visitor’s/tourist visa.
What are the school’s English language levels?
There are six levels corresponding to the different CEFR levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.
How many students are in each class?
12 students maximum, 9 in average, 8 students maximum for the Beginners English course.
How long is each academic hour?
Each class lasts 50 minutes and in some cases are held both in the morning and in the afternoon. Typically, courses have 20, 22, or 28 lessons a week.
What kind of accommodations are available?
Accommodation options include different categories of homestays arranged by St Giles and private rentals at hotels, inns, apartments and student residences.
Can I use the school facilities?
Yes. The different facilities and services available at each St Giles center are open for all students.
Are there any extracurricular activities?
Yes, there are extracurricular activities arranged by St Giles for an extra fee. However, some special programs include these activities within the tuition fees.
Do I need to buy health insurance?
Depending on your visa status, you may be required to buy health insurance. St Giles offers optional health insurance through a partner provider to all students. It’s also recommended for you to obtain travel insurance to cover you on your journey to St Giles and on your way home.
Do I need to buy any books?
Books are not included. Typically, the price is £25-£50 (UK) or $100 CAD (Canada) and can be bought at the school's bookstore. Students enrolled on programs up to 4 weeks can pay a deposit for the book and return it for a reimbursement. If they'll study for more than 4 weeks, they must buy them and pay for them in full.
Is there an application fee for the English courses?
Yes, there’s an application fee of £80/$150 CAD, which can be paid via Flywire, debit card or credit card.
When do I pay? What are the payment methods for these ESL courses?
You must pay the tuition fee at least 21 days before the start date, and the initial fees as soon as possible, as St Giles won’t issue an acceptance letter without receiving those payments beforehand. Payment options for the tuition fee are debit card, credit card, or international bank transfer.
Are there any scholarships for the English courses?
