What English courses does Original Campus offer?
Three courses, all taught on the same campus by the same teachers, all twenty hours a week. What makes the week yours is the timetable: Original Campus runs morning, midday and evening classes, so you can build study around a job, a family, or simply the hours your brain works best. You take a placement test before classes begin so you start at the right level, and you can move between courses as your goal changes.
The course built to get you using English confidently in the real world, through everyday topics and situations rather than textbook drills. Twenty hours a week on campus, from 4 weeks up to a full 60. There is no entrance exam and no minimum level, so complete beginners are welcome, and the placement test simply decides which class you join.
For a certificate that never expires and that employers and universities recognise everywhere. Twenty hours a week aimed squarely at the exam, from 12 to 26 weeks depending on which one you sit and where you are starting from. The placement test decides whether you are ready; if you are not yet, you begin in General English and move across.
For the score a university, an employer or a visa application asks of you. Twenty hours a week of exam skills and technique, from 4 weeks for a final polish up to 42 if you are building from further back. What should you know before applying to Original Campus?

Costs, Dates, Application Process and other Considerations
Application Process - Complete the contact form and an advisor writes back with the steps that apply to your country: which documents you need, how long each stage takes, and how the Australian student visa application works. You sit a short placement test before classes begin, which is what decides your level rather than any certificate you send in advance. We prepare and submit the application for you.
Dates of the Program - Every course begins on a Monday, in any week of the year, and a public holiday moves the start to the Tuesday. Teaching runs in ten-week cycles with a two-week break at the end of each one, so the year has a rhythm instead of being one long stretch. You also choose your timetable: mornings from 8.00 to 12.10, middays from 12.30 to 4.40, or evenings from 5.15 to 9.30, Monday to Friday. Length of the Program - General English runs from 4 weeks to 60, Cambridge preparation from 12 to 26, and IELTS and PTE preparation from 4 to 42. Every one of them is twenty hours a week on campus. If you are unsure how many weeks you need, the placement test result is the honest guide, and we go through it with you before you commit.
Costs - The total depends on the course, how many weeks you book and when you travel, and the weekly rate falls as the booking gets longer. You are never asked for more than half the tuition before you start, and the rest is paid term by term, which is worth knowing if you are budgeting from another currency. On living costs, the school’s own student handbook budgets roughly 400 to 800 Australian dollars a week once rent, transport, phone and groceries are counted, or about 20,000 to 25,000 a year. Health Insurance - Overseas Student Health Cover is compulsory for anyone on an Australian student visa and has to run for the whole length of the visa, not just the course. We organise it alongside your enrolment so the dates line up and nothing lapses between arrival and your first class. On a Working Holiday or visitor visa it is not required, though travel cover is still worth having.
Minimum Age - All three courses are adult courses and take students from 18. If you are enquiring for someone younger, tell us their age and what they want to achieve, and we will point you at schools set up for under 18s in Melbourne or elsewhere in Australia.
Minimum English Level - None at all for General English. Absolute beginners are welcome, there is no entrance exam and nothing to send in advance. The Cambridge and IELTS courses are different: the placement test decides whether you are ready for them, and if your level is not there yet you start in General English and move across when it is. Nobody is put in a class that will waste their time.
Visa Regulations - It depends how long you plan to stay. Short courses can often be done on a visitor visa or an eTA, a Working Holiday visa allows a few months of study, and anything longer and full time needs a student visa, subclass 500, which requires at least twenty hours of class a week. Working While You Study: - A student visa currently allows up to 48 hours of paid work per fortnight while your course is running, with no cap during scheduled breaks. Accommodation - Three routes: homestay with an Australian family, a student residence, or a shared apartment. Which suits you depends on how independent you want to be in your first weeks and what you want to spend, and prices move with the season. Extra Curricular Activities - Free workshops run every day from 12.30, on pronunciation, public speaking, conversation club and career development, and you can take as many as you like on top of your twenty hours. Airport Pickup - An airport transfer can be arranged, and what it looks like depends on which accommodation you choose, so we sort the two together rather than separately. The school also suggests landing about two weeks before orientation, which sounds like a lot until you have spent your first week hunting for a bank, a SIM card and a supermarket on no sleep. For a first arrival the transfer is worth it: stepping out after a long flight and finding somebody holding your name beats decoding a strange train system at six in the morning.
First day of classes - Orientation happens before your first class rather than on the day, and it covers the practical ground: the support services available to you, health and emergency contacts, the campus and its resources, your visa conditions, your rights at work, and who to speak to when something goes wrong. Then your placement result, your timetable and a look around. Have your passport and the details of your health cover with you.

Weather in Melbourne
Melbourne has a famously changeable climate, and locals will tell you about four seasons in one day before you have finished your first week. Summer, from December to February, is warm and dry, usually in the mid twenties with hot spells that climb well past thirty. Autumn, from March to May, is the season most people rate highest: mild, still, and the parks turn colour. Winter, from June to August, is cool rather than harsh, generally in the low teens by day with grey stretches and rain, and it never snows in the city. Spring, from September to November, is the least predictable of the four, swinging between warm afternoons and a sudden cold change. Bring a jacket you can carry and layers you can take off, and you will be fine in any month.
