Health Insurance - Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is compulsory for the full length of an Australian student visa. A vocational visa is a long one. A 68-week course plus the time either side can mean well over 18 months of cover. What English level do I need, and what if I am not there yet?
IELTS 6.0 or an accepted equivalent. It is a real academic level, and it sets you up for diploma work from day one. If you need more time, you simply study English for a few months first. Take English at Original Campus until you reach the level. Then move into your diploma on the same campus, with the same school, in the same city. Lots of students do this, so the 2 courses are often packaged together. We can quote both in one go.
What are the entry requirements besides English?
You need to be at least 18. You also need Year 11 or higher, or the equivalent from your country. A completed nationally recognised qualification at Certificate III or above works too. Most students meet this with their secondary school certificate. The main task is getting your transcript certified and translated. Send us what you have and we will confirm it meets the requirement before you spend anything on translations.
What does "nationally recognised" actually mean?
It means your qualification is part of Australia’s national training system. The codes on this page, like BSB50120 or BSB50820, are national codes. Registered providers across Australia deliver the same qualification with the same content. And each one is listed on the government register at training.gov.au. How are these courses assessed? Is there a final exam?
There is no final exam. Vocational training in Australia is competency-based. Each unit checks whether you can show the skill, and the result is Competent or Not Yet Competent. You show it through workbooks, case studies, role plays, class presentations, group projects and your trainer watching you work. If a unit comes back Not Yet Competent, you talk to your trainer and arrange more training. So you keep working on the unit until you have it.
Can I get credit for study I have already done?
Yes, in many cases, through 2 routes. Credit Transfer is for you if you hold a qualification or Statement of Attainment from another Australian registered training organisation. You claim it with a certified copy of your transcript. Recognition of Prior Learning covers skills you gained through work or life. They are assessed against the same units. One tip: RPL is processed before your course starts, so raise it when you enrol. Credit shortens your course, and your visa too, so it pays to decide early.
How much of the course is online?
A quarter at most. Australian rules keep online and distance learning to 25 per cent of an international student’s total course. At least 1 unit in every compulsory study period is face to face. Original Campus teaches its vocational courses as group classroom work, with some online delivery used inside the classroom. So you are on campus, with your trainer, either way.
What happens if I fall behind?
You aim to complete at least half the units in each study period, and a study period is 10 weeks. If you slip below that, the school steps in to help. You meet the operations manager and choose from catch-up classes, timetabled reassessment, private sessions, a study partner or extra tuition from your teacher. This matters for your visa: 2 study periods in a row below that level can put it at risk. That is why the support starts early, and asking early gives you the most options.
Is Original Campus accredited to deliver these qualifications?
