GENERAL ENGLISH

These English courses at the EC Centre are made of 20 core lessons per week of general English instruction, and in some cases, plus extra lessons focused on specific topics. You can also add One-to-One sessions to the General English course, in order to receive instruction focused 100% on your specific needs.

GENERAL ENGLISH 20

This English course includes 20 core lessons, where you will work on your main language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in eight lessons a week; while the other 12 are dedicated to improving integrated skills, such as vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

ENGLISH IN THE CITY

This is a special English program that, apart from 20 General English lessons, it includes 10 lessons focused on learning English with contents related to the EC school’s location. One of these will be spent outside the classroom with the rest of the class, visiting local tourist locations and doing exciting activities in local areas.

Young Learners These EC English language programs are aimed at children and teenagers who are looking to improve their proficiency level, while having tons of fun, meeting new friends and living unforgettable experiences in new exciting destinations. These programs are perfect for kids and teenagers, as they include morning themed classes, and afternoon and evening activities, so students can practice their English in the real world. These include some of the regular English courses, but are taught at an exclusive area separated from the rest of the younger students. Why should I choose the EC English Language Centre?

The EC English Language Centre is an English language institute funded in 1991 in Malta, specialized in teaching English as a foreign language for international students. What is the Orange Carpet Experience?

The Orange Carpet Experience is EC’s guarantee that you will absolutely enjoy your stay at the school. Beginning with a welcoming party on your first Sunday at EC, full with refreshments, music, and an orientation talk. Further, EC will constantly track your progress, in order to check everything is ok and you are receiving the best education, tailored to your specific needs, so you can make the best out of your experience abroad. Later, two weeks before departure, you will participate in a one-on-one meeting, where you can discuss your experience at EC and your future plans. Finally, you participate in a farewell event, where you meet with your friends in a relaxed environment, take some photos, and receive your course certificates.

What is EC Online?

It is EC’s online platform, which you can access from the moment you book your English course. There you can take a placement test that will assess your current level of English, to later offer you self-study material appropriate for your current needs; and you can also check the exclusive resources to prepare for IELTS available to all students. There you will also take a final exit test and the results will be given to you as an Oxford certificate. Moreover, in this platform you can join the different workshops and activities organized by EC and talk to your teachers.

Are textbooks sold separately or are they included in the tuition fee?

English textbooks are included in your tuition fees in all schools, except for Canada, where they cost a set amount per week.

Are classes taught in the morning or in the afternoon?

As an EC student, you will have classes in both the morning and the afternoon and will be separated in A or B group. In some smaller schools you will only have morning classes.

Can I choose whether I am assigned to group A or B?

At the moment of enrolling you can indicate whether you would like to be in group A or B, but ultimately, it will depend on your placement test results.

Are there any extra activities at EC? Do I have to pay for them?

The EC English Language Centre has numerous free activities and workshops, so you can join any time you have spare time. You can check the monthly calendar for further information on what is happening each day. If you are not on a budget, there are also several of paid activities organized by EC, so you can meet other students, explore the city and live great experiences.

Is there a minimum age to apply to these courses?

The minimum age is normally 16 years old in all centers, although it might vary. There are also 30+ courses only for those over 30 years old.

What are the school’s English language levels? Do I receive any certificate by the end of the course?

There are 8 different English levels, which are divided according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for languages), and students are expected to advanced 1 level every 10 weeks if they comply with attendance and all assignments.

I am not a student in my country, can I take these courses with a student visa?

Yes, there is no maximum age for these English courses, nor do you need to be a student at the moment of the application. You only have to enroll, meet the course requirements (if there are any) and comply with the different visa regulations according to each country.

Do I need to buy health insurance?

The EC English Language Centre is a partner with Guard.me, a health insurance provider located in different countries around the world. They cover accidents and emergency illnesses, with different coverage depending on the country, and this insurance option can be obtained along with your tuition fees. Please due note that, if you refrain from taking this option, you will still need to have health insurance coverage during your stay abroad, with different requirements depending on each country’s regulations.

What kind of accommodations are available?

There are several options according to your needs and budget. Some of them include homestays and student residences offered by EC partners, or you can also arrange accommodation on your own, such as renting an apartment with other students or finding a room inside a residence.

Do I have to pay to use the different school facilities?

No, there is no charge to use the different amenities, which are already included in the tuition for your English course.
