English Courses at Greenwich College
English courses at Greenwich College run at 7 campuses in 6 Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth and Adelaide. You get 10 English courses, day and evening timetables, and new classes starting most Mondays.

TL;DR: Quick summary
Greenwich College runs seven campuses across Australia, two in Sydney and one each in Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth and Adelaide, and it teaches what it calls the largest range of English courses in the country. Ten of them: General English from beginner to advanced, Pronunciation in Context, Cambridge and IELTS exam preparation, English for Academic Purposes, English for Vocational Studies, English for Business, and two career courses built around hospitality and eBusiness. Every campus runs a day timetable and an evening one, so the course fits around a job rather than the other way round. Weekly progress tests, free speaking clubs every afternoon and a Job Ready programme come with the course at no extra cost. Greenwich is CRICOS registered, an IELTS Approved Preparation Provider, and has twice won Vocational College of the Year at the ST Star Awards. Tell us the city and the level you are at and a ViveCampus advisor comes back with dates and a price.
Ten English courses: General English, Pronunciation in Context, Cambridge exam preparation from A2 Key to C2 Proficiency, IELTS Foundation and Advanced, English for Academic Purposes, English for Vocational Studies, English for Business, Hospitality Pro English, eBusiness Pro English, and the junior and study group programmes for younger students and school groups.
General English runs from 1 to 52 weeks with a new intake every Monday and takes you from complete beginner to advanced across five levels. Every campus offers both a day and an evening timetable. Afternoons add free extras that most schools charge for: Active Speaking Club, Professional Speaking Club, Help Club tutorials, weekly mock tests and the Job Ready programme for CVs and interviews. Greenwich is an on-site Cambridge and TOEFL exam centre, an IELTS Approved Preparation Provider, and feeds into more than 30 partner colleges and universities.

Six cities, and the choice is the point
Most students reach this page having decided they want to study English in Australia and not yet which city. That is the right order, and Greenwich is the college that lets you answer it last: the courses, the levels, the timetables and the afternoon programme hold at every campus, so the city becomes a free choice you make for the life you want outside class.
What changes between them is cost of living, climate and what your weekends look like. Sydney has the harbour, the beaches and the deepest part time job market. Melbourne has the coffee, the sport and the arts, and a campus of six floors two minutes from Southern Cross Station. Brisbane and Gold Coast give you roughly 300 days of sunshine a year, a lower cost of living and a beach or a rainforest within an hour. Perth is calm, safe and has the best beaches on the list. Adelaide is the most affordable and the easiest to feel at home in quickly. An advisor will weigh those against your budget and your plans before you commit to one.
What English courses does Greenwich College offer?
General English, exam preparation, academic English and career English
Ten of them, which Greenwich calls the largest range of English courses in Australia. Every one runs on both a day and an evening timetable, levels go from complete beginner to advanced, and General English takes a new intake every Monday. Weekly progress tests, speaking clubs, Help Club tutorials and the Job Ready programme are included.
The course that starts most Greenwich timetables, and the one the other nine assume you have done. Five levels from complete beginner to upper intermediate, covering speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, with a new intake every Monday so you can start the week you arrive. There is a progress test every week and one-to-one counselling to go with it, so you always know which skill to push next. Afternoons add the free Active Speaking Club, Help Club tutorials and Friday electives you choose yourself. Day or evening timetable at every campus.
Four weeks on the single thing that decides whether people understand you first time. It works through individual sounds, groups of sounds, syllables, word stress, sentence stress and intonation, then puts them to work in role play and presentations. Students book it when their grammar has moved ahead of their speech and they are tired of repeating themselves, and it is short enough to add to a longer General English booking rather than choose between the two.
A certificate that never expires, prepared for and sat in the same building: Greenwich is an authorised Cambridge exam centre. Courses run at A2 Key, B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency, with B2 First available both as a fixed twelve week course and on demand every Monday. You get teacher-guided online support between classes, a free Cambridge Club focused on exam technique, and full-length weekly mock tests under exam conditions, which is what turns a level into a score.
Two entry points, Foundation from IELTS 5.0 and Advanced from IELTS 6.0, both with a new intake every Monday and a length you choose from one week to sixteen. The course works through all four papers with the techniques each one rewards: reading for true, false and not given, note-taking for listening, structuring an essay, and speaking for two minutes without drying up. Free IELTS skill classes, a pre-test under exam conditions and full-length weekly mock tests come with it.
Twelve weeks that end with a direct entry pathway into more than 30 Australian colleges and universities, with no external English test to sit afterwards. It covers the things university actually asks of you and school never did: essay structure, referencing and what counts as plagiarism, reading academic texts quickly, taking notes in a lecture, using statistics and quotations, and delivering a seminar presentation in front of a group. Free weekly IELTS mock tests and fortnightly one-to-one academic counselling come with it.
Five or ten weeks aimed squarely at the student who wants a diploma next. It is the pathway into Greenwich’s own vocational qualifications and into partner colleges, and it teaches the English a vocational classroom runs on: report writing, formal registers, listening for the important points, presentation technique and the reading strategies that get you through a unit outline. A lower entry level than the academic course, which makes it the faster route for most students heading into a trade or a business qualification.
Three hands-on modules you can take one at a time or all three together: Administration and Customer Service, Sales and Marketing, and Management and Human Resources. The week is built around real work: telephone English, taking notes in a meeting, negotiating, writing and presenting a case study, and the grammar that formal business writing depends on. It also prepares you for Linguaskill, the Cambridge test employers use, so you finish with something to put on an application.
English for the kitchen and the floor, in the industry that employs more international students in Australia than any other. Three modules of eight weeks each, Food and Kitchen, Beverages, and Customer Service, taken two at a minimum, with six weeks of study and a two week break in each. You learn kitchen hygiene and safety vocabulary, how to talk about allergies, how Australian kitchen brigades are organised and the service language a shift actually needs, and you build a written portfolio as you go.
The same shape as Hospitality Pro English, aimed at online commerce. Three modules of eight weeks, two at a minimum, covering e-commerce fundamentals, marketing automation, and digital sales and analytics. You work on product descriptions, customer reviews, brands and logos, and digital strategy, in English, using the vocabulary the field runs on. It suits students who want a business qualification next, or who already run something online and want to run it in English.
For school groups and younger students travelling together, built around the Global Explorer study tour. A group gets its own class at its own level, an activity programme in the city it is visiting, and staff who have run this many times before. Greenwich builds the itinerary with the school that is travelling, so the balance of class time, excursions and free time is yours to set. Popular in Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast, and available at the other campuses on request.
Greenwich also teaches the qualification your English leads to: diplomas in business, IT and project management, hospitality and commercial cookery, and health and community care. See the professional programs
General English is where most students start, the Cambridge and IELTS courses are what people book when they need the certificate, and English for Academic Purposes is the one that opens a university door without another exam

What should you know before enrolling at Greenwich College?
The things worth settling before you book rather than after, taken from Greenwich’s own course guide and student handbook, and from what students ask us every week.
Costs, Dates, Application Process and other Considerations
Application Process - Send us the contact form and an advisor comes back with the order of operations for your nationality, the campus you are considering and the visa you will need. You take the Greenwich placement test before you travel, online or through a registered representative, so you walk into the right level on your first morning rather than losing a week finding it. Preparing the application, the confirmation of enrolment your student visa is built on and the supporting documents is our job, and the translations are included. Greenwich takes a new General English intake every Monday, so the start date usually bends to fit you rather than the other way round.
Dates of the Program - General English and IELTS preparation start every Monday of the year at every campus, which is what makes Greenwich easy to fit around a flight you have already booked. Pronunciation in Context and English for Business start every four weeks, English for Vocational Studies every five, Cambridge and the two Pro English courses every eight to twelve, and English for Academic Purposes every twelve. Tell us the window you have and we will send you the nearest start date at each campus you are considering.
Length of the Program - From one week to fifty two on General English, and the right length depends on what you want to be able to do at the end. Four to eight weeks is a strong introduction and a real trip. Twelve to twenty four weeks is where most students say their English stopped being something they were studying and started being something they were using. Longer than that and you are into visa territory, which changes what you can do and what you pay, so ask us for both the short and the long price when you compare.
Costs - What you pay depends on the course, the length and the campus, and longer bookings bring the weekly price down, which is the useful thing to know early. On top of tuition there is a one-off enrolment fee, materials, and Overseas Student Health Cover if you are on a student visa. Living costs move the total more than the course does: Sydney and Melbourne sit at the top, Brisbane and Gold Coast in the middle, and Perth and Adelaide are the most affordable cities on this list. Send us the contact form with your city, your dates and your level and an advisor will put tuition, fees, insurance and accommodation into one quote you can read in a single line. For a first estimate, try our cost of studying abroad calculator.
Health Insurance - Overseas Student Health Cover is required for the whole length of your student visa in Australia, and it has to be in place before the visa is granted. It covers doctors, hospital treatment, ambulances and a contribution towards medicines. We arrange it with your enrolment and quote it alongside the tuition so the number you see is the number you pay. If you are coming on a visitor or working holiday visa for a short course instead, OSHC does not apply and ordinary travel insurance does, and we will tell you which one your plan needs before you pay for anything.
Minimum Age - Eighteen for the year-round adult courses at every campus. Students aged 16 and 17 can be accepted on the adult courses with the right guardianship and accommodation arrangements in place, which we will walk you through. Younger students are catered for through the junior and study group programmes, which travel as a group with their own class, their own activity programme and supervision throughout. Tell us the age and we will point you at the right programme and the paperwork that goes with it.
Minimum English Level - None at all for General English, which starts from complete beginner and runs across five levels. Everything else asks for a base, because it aims at something specific: Pronunciation in Context from pre-intermediate, English for Business and the two Pro English courses from IELTS 5.0, English for Vocational Studies from 5.5, English for Academic Purposes from 6.0, and the Cambridge courses from 4.0 upwards depending on which exam you are sitting. You take the Greenwich placement test before you travel, so the level is settled before you get on the plane.
Visa Regulations - This is the question that most often decides the length of the course, so settle it early. A course up to about three months can usually be done on a visitor visa, which is the simplest route and allows no work. Anything longer runs on a student visa, which needs a confirmation of enrolment from Greenwich, health cover, evidence of funds and a genuine student statement. Australia also runs a working holiday visa that lets some nationalities study for up to four months, which is worth asking about if it applies to your passport. Greenwich is CRICOS registered under provider code 02672K, which is what allows it to issue the enrolment documents a student visa is built on, and we prepare the file with you.
Working While You Study: - This is one of the best reasons to choose Australia, and the reason the evening timetable matters. A student visa normally allows up to 48 hours of paid work a fortnight while your course is running and unlimited hours during scheduled breaks, and the minimum wage is among the highest in the world. Hospitality, retail and customer service are where most students start, which is exactly what Hospitality Pro English and the Job Ready programme are built to prepare you for. Study in the evening and your daytime hours are free for a shift. Check with us what your passport and your course length allow before you build a budget on it.
Accommodation - Greenwich arranges accommodation in every city and the options are broadly the same everywhere. A homestay with an Australian family, usually with breakfast and dinner, is what we recommend for a first stay and for anybody who wants their speaking to move: it is several more hours of English every day and it comes with people who will explain the city to you. Student residences give you your own room in a building full of people in the same position, with shared kitchens and study spaces, and they are the sociable option. A shared flat is the cheapest and the most independent, and it is what most students move into after the first few months. Say which of the three appeals in the contact form and we will arrange it alongside your enrolment.
Extra Curricular Activities - Greenwich runs an activity calendar at every campus and publishes it a month ahead, so you can see what is on before you arrive. Weekday afternoons bring Active Speaking Club, Fun Club with yoga, dance and games, city walking tours for new students, film days and travel talks. Weekends are the bigger trips, and they are priced for students: a dolphin cruise at Jervis Bay or the Hunter Valley from Sydney, a moonlight kayak on the Yarra or the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne, koala sanctuaries and river kayaking from Brisbane. There are also beach days, barbecues, market days and student parties, which is where the friendships actually get made.
Airport Pickup - Greenwich arranges an airport transfer in every city and we book it with your course. Whether you need one depends on where you are landing and what time: arriving into Sydney or Melbourne for the first time with luggage, no local SIM and a long way to go is a different experience from stepping off a short flight into Adelaide. For students under eighteen it is part of the arrangements rather than optional. It costs little next to the tuition and it lets the first evening be about the city rather than about logistics.
First day of classes - You will have taken your placement test before travelling, so the first morning is orientation: a welcome session, a tour of the campus, your student account and timetable, and the practical business of wifi, transport cards and where to eat. Classes begin the same day. A city walking tour for new students runs that week as part of Fun Club. By the end of the first day you will have a class, a teacher, a route home and a few names, and you will have been shown how the afternoon clubs and Friday electives work.
Keep in mind that the biggest expense is usually not the course itself, but the living costs. So, before choosing the cheapest school, consider all factors carefully

Greenwich College campuses
Seven campuses in six cities, and the course is the same at all of them, so the city is a free choice. A ViveCampus advisor helps you weigh the things that actually change your year: what it costs to live there, how hot or cold it gets, how big a city you want to wake up in, and where the part time work is. Course availability varies a little by campus, so tell us the city you like and we will confirm what runs there.
- Greenwich Sydney Pitt Street
The larger of the two Sydney campuses, in the middle of the CBD with Central, Town Hall and Museum stations all close by, and reception open from 8am to 7pm for the evening classes. Everything is a short walk: the shopping, the cafés, the cinemas and the harbour, with Bondi and Manly a bus or a ferry away. Sydney has the deepest part time job market in the country and the widest course list at Greenwich, which is why it is the campus most of our students pick first.
Location: Level 2, 396 Pitt Street, Sydney NSW 2000
- Greenwich Sydney Mary Street
The second Sydney campus, a few streets from the first and also in the CBD, close to Central Station and the Surry Hills side of the city. It gives Sydney students a second set of classrooms and a quieter building, and the two campuses share the same courses, the same levels and the same afternoon programme, so which one you are placed in depends on your course and your timetable rather than on anything you have to choose.
Location: Level 2, 72 Mary Street, Sydney NSW 2000
- Greenwich Melbourne
Six floors and more than a hundred classrooms on Spencer Street, two minutes’ walk from Southern Cross Station and on the free tram zone, which means you can cross the city centre without paying a fare. There is a café on site with student prices, computer labs and free wifi throughout. Melbourne is Australia’s capital for coffee, sport and the arts, with the laneways, Federation Square and the parks on the doorstep, and reception stays open to 7pm for evening students.
Location: Level 8, 120 Spencer Street, Melbourne VIC 3000
- Greenwich Brisbane
Nineteen classrooms and a training kitchen on Charlotte Street, in the heart of Australia’s third largest city and easy to reach on several forms of public transport. There is a balcony for students, kitchen amenities on each floor and free wifi throughout. Brisbane gets around 300 days of sunshine a year and costs noticeably less to live in than Sydney, with riverside walks during the week and the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast within an hour at the weekend.
Location: Level 3, 119 Charlotte Street, Brisbane QLD 4000
- Greenwich Gold Coast
A purpose-built campus in Southport, four minutes from the Nerang Street tram stop and next to the Australia Fair shopping centre, with a student lounge, dedicated study spaces and a counselling room. The Gold Coast averages 300 days of sunshine and 29 degrees, has seventy kilometres of coastline and more than a thousand kilometres of cycling trails, and puts the beach fifteen minutes from class. Brisbane is an hour away and the theme parks are closer than that.
Location: 56 Nerang Street, Southport, Gold Coast QLD 4215
- Greenwich Perth
A purpose-built campus in Bayswater, two minutes’ walk from the train station, with a fully equipped training kitchen, a student lounge, study spaces and parking on site, which is rare and useful. Perth moves at a calmer pace than the east coast, which a lot of students find is exactly what they need to focus, and it has the best beaches on this list. Living costs are well below Sydney and the student community is close-knit and easy to join.
Location: 13 Beechboro Road South, Bayswater WA 6053
- Greenwich Adelaide
A brand new campus on Currie Street, nine minutes’ walk from Adelaide Railway Station, with ten classrooms shared between English and vocational courses, a modern student kitchen, a large break-out area and a fully equipped healthcare lab. Adelaide is regularly named one of Australia’s most liveable and most affordable cities: beaches, markets, festivals and live music, a short drive to wine country, and a cost of living that makes a long course go further than anywhere else on this list.
Location: Level 4, 27 Currie Street, Adelaide SA 5000
Around two thirds of the students we send to Greenwich choose Sydney, Melbourne or Gold Coast.

I feel like I’m living the Australian dream! Studying at Greenwich College in Melbourne has been an amazing experience. My English is getting better every week, and I can really notice the difference, especially at my part-time job in a restaurant where I speak English with customers every day. The teachers are great, I’ve made friends from all over the world, and I’m enjoying every moment of living in Australia. I did all the process with ViveCampus, thanks to their support.
What I love most about studying at Greenwich College is that learning English is actually fun! The classes are really interactive, and the teachers make everyone feel comfortable speaking, even when we make mistakes. And living on the Gold Coast is just perfect!
