Centre for English Teaching at USYD

This English course for international students is offered by Centre for English Teaching(CET) at the University of Sydney. This university which is ranked among the top 50 important universities in the world by QS World Ranking of Universities and top 5 in Graduate Employability Rankings. USYD develops English language proficiency for undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs, or university career.

CET is in the centre of the main campus; it receives around 3,500 students from around the world each year, with 350,000 alumni and more than 60,000 donors worldwide. USYD offers a lot of services to suit their students in the university environment such as personal feedback, weekly workshops, some advice on your new transition to life in the university, and extra support with online courses, online self-study resources even some support classes if you need them.

In order to help students with this, CET has developed the 4:2:1 learning model, in which students will have opportunities to study in the classroom for four hours with interactive and engaging lessons, two hours of online personalized classes and 1 hour of social and cultural activities.

Global English students can access many of the university facilities, such as libraries, computer labs and the international student lounge. There is also the possibility of joining the clubs and societies if you are here for a long time. Some facilities, such as the gym and swimming centre, require a paid membership.

Global English (GE)

This English program in Sydney is designed to help students to build their skills and confidence in a social and a professional context. Global English responds to the globally connected world by developing and improving students' English skills and 21st century skills. This new and innovative language course creates a meaningful learning environment by connecting the outside world with the classroom.

Global English combines in-class, real-world and digital activities suitable for a large range of students with a desire to develop confidence in authentic social and professional contexts in Australia. This course uses technology and impressive experiences in its curriculum to support the learning process and develop student’s digital literacy skills. The focus of this course is learning through teamwork projects in order to improve the learning experience and prepare students with global workforce skills.

Main Features of the Global English Program (GE):
  • 20 hours a week for 2 to 50 weeks, with 2 weeks minimum to take this course.

1. Application Form

Download and complete the application form. Do not forget to sign the form.

2. Passport Copy

Clear Copy of the identification page of your passport. The passport must be valid for 6 months after the first day of classes.

3. Payment confirmation

The University of Sydney will send an offer letter with payable fees which you can pay by bank draft, Credit card (Visa and MasterCard), or funds transfer by telegraphic transfer. In order to guarantee your place, the full tuition balance must be paid, in full, at the time of formal registration and placement testing, at least six weeks prior to the start of classes.

Important: We encourage to send the documents with at least 2 months in advance.



3. THE UNIVERSITY WILL SEND YOU THE OFFER LETTER

It takes around 2 weeks for the University to send you the offer letter

The University will review your application, and will send you an offer letter with the details of your fees payable. All fees must be paid in full six weeks prior to the commencement of classes



4. APPLY TO TOURIST OR STUDENT VISA

International students of the English courses need to apply to a tourist visa or a student visa. students applying to a 12 week program or less can study with a visitor visa

If the length of the program is 12 weeks or less, students can take the program with a tourist or visitor visa.

If the length of the program is longer than 12 weeks, students must apply to the student visa.
